Transferred to Carolina after playing one season at Marquette, where he earned Big East Conference All-Freshman team honors and was a three-time Big East Freshman of the Week • UNC sophomore guard Kerwin Walton and Garcia were AAU teammates on D1 Minnesota.
FRESHMAN SEASON (2020-21)
Averaged 13.0 points and 6.6 rebounds for the Golden Eagles • Scored in double figures 17 times, including a season-high 28 at Villanova and 24 in Marquette’s 83-70 win over the Tar Heels in the Smith Center on February 24 • Those were two of six games in which he scored 20 or more points • Led all Big East freshmen in scoring and rebounding and was second in field goal percentage • Overall, was 13th in the league in scoring and 11th in rebounding and field goal percentage • Three double-doubles (14 points/10 rebounds vs. Creighton, 20/11 vs. Connecticut and 24/11 at UNC) and grabbed 10 or more rebounds five times • Shot 48.0 percent from the floor and 78.3 percent from the free throw line • Also made 26 three-pointers and shot 35.6 percent from beyond the arc • Earned Big East Freshman of the Week honors three times • Scored 19 points in his collegiate debut against Arkansas-Pine Bluff • Made 8 of 11 shots from the floor and scored 20 points at Creighton • Season-high 13 rebounds at Georgetown • Made 9 of 15 from the floor and 9 of 10 free throws in his season-high 28 at Villanova • Was 9 for 13 from the floor and 5 for 5 from the line in scoring a game-high 24 points in 37 minutes against the Tar Heels • Team-high 18 points and eight rebounds at UConn • Played for head coach Steve Wojciechowski at Marquette.
