Gray had some playing time last year.
It's very competitive at the long stick middie position, but I think with Gray's experience he might be able to break into the lineup and help us.
A very good athlete.
General: Returning letter winner in the long stick midfield corps...excellent 6-2, 205-pound athlete.
2011 (Redshirt Freshman): Moved into the rotation in the defensive midfield at mid-season...saw action in six games, including his first ever playing time against Dartmouth on March 22...had two ground balls and two caused turnovers...was excellent against Virginia when he had a ground ball and two caused turnovers.
2010 (Freshman): Was red-shirted...was an Iron Ram and Super Ram strength and conditioning honoree on the team.
Prep: Graduated from Forsyth Country Day School in Lewisville, N.C. on June 2, 2008...played four years of lacrosse there...was coached there by UNC alumnus Michael Burnett, Class of 1983, who was also an assistant coach at UNC from 2002-06...was a midfielder the first two years and then switched to defense for his final two years...competed on the football team his junior and senior years as a linebacker and wide receiver...led the lax team to a pair of conference championships...member of Triad Lacrosse Club and Team Carolina...played on a side which went 12-2 and won the EVO Games with Team Carolina...played in North Carolina Great 38 game...gold medalist in the North Carolina State Games for the Triad team...Forsyth Country Day captain and MVP his senior year...two-time All-State selection...2008 Forsyth County Player of the Year...in club lacrosse played for Team Carolina and TLC...was member of the Triad team state games championship unit.
Community Service & Leadership: Works with 2nd and 7 Foundation reading program in local public schools...regularly lends his services at youth lacrosse clinics...participated in Adopt-A-Family for Christmas...volunteered with Habitat for Humanity.
Personal: Moyer Gray Smith, III is the son of J and Julie Smith...goes by Gray...his grandfather, Moyer, was a former UNC associate athletic director, football player and assistant football coach and president of the Educational Foundation ...Gray was born January 28, 1989 in Chapel Hill, N.C. ...has two younger brothers, including Jordan, 20, a sophomore defenseman on the UNC lacrosse team, a younger sister...history and geography double major.

1. The best thing about being a Tar Heel lacrosse player is representing the great state of North Carolina.
2. My favorite thing about competing for Coach Breschi is his passion and intensity for the game.
3. Since last year the aspect of my training I've worked on the most is conditioning.
4. My best friend on another college lacrosse team is Evan Bozymski (Bucknell).
5. My greatest strength as a lacrosse player is toughness.

1. Away from the lacrosse field and academic pursuits I like to spend time at the beach fishing and being out on the water.
2. The best movie I've seen recently is The Town.
3. If I could compete in another sport at UNC it would be football.
4. The music act I'd most like to see in person is U2.
5. The personal interest I have that might surprise my teammates is that I enjoy a good book.
Section #3 (Food and Beverage)
1. After a game at Fetzer Field, I'd like to see a tailgate spread that included cheeseburgers and wings.
2. My favorite beverage is chocolate milk.
3. My favorite food made by a relative is my grandmother's homemade pound cake and Milky Way Cake.
4. My favorite place to eat in Chapel Hill is Front Porch or Tyler's in Carrboro.
5. My favorite guilty pleasure food wise is candy.

1. If I possessed the gift of time travel I'd like to fight with my ancestors who I think were Vikings.
