Matt had a great fall. He really played well in the scrimmages.
As he continues to improve, I feel like we as a staff are all gaining confidence in Matt.
His hand speed has gotten better and his outlets have improved.
I think he's just waiting for the time when he'll get a shot.
General: A returning letter winner as a goalkeeper who transferred to Carolina after his sophomore year at UMBC...son of UNC assistant coach Brian Holman and brother of Tar Heel junior midfielder Marcus Holman.
2011 (Junior): Played in one game for the Tar Heels, manning the goal in the fourth quarter of the win over Presbyterian.
Prep: An alumnus of the Gilman School in Baltimore, Md., where he was coached by Carolina alumnus Brooks Matthews...his senior year the team in 2008 went 18-1 overall before falling in the MIAA final to Loyola...that squad was ranked No. 1 in the nation at the end of the season in the LaxPower poll...won the senior award at Gilman, given to the player who demonstrates the most effort, leadership and enthusiasm...attended Nike Blue Chip Camp in 2006 prior to his junior year...played club lacrosse for Breakers Lacrosse Club team coached by his father, Brian Holman. Community Service & Leadership: Volunteered with Habitat for Humanity during his high school years.
Personal: Matthew Hunter Holman was born March 1, 1989 in Baltimore, Md. ...he is the son of Brian David and Laurie Jean Holman...his father is an assistant coach for the Tar Heels who was a goalkeeper from 1980-83 and a 1980 NCAA champion at Johns Hopkins...has a brother, Marcus, 20, who is a junior attackman at UNC and a youngster sister who is a tremendous field hockey and lacrosse player at East Chapel Hill High School...history major.

Section #1 (Lacrosse Related)
1. The best thing about being a Tar Heel lacrosse player is knowing every day you are competing for one of the best lacrosse teams in the country.
2. My favorite thing about competing for Coach Breschi is that he cares about each one of us individually and expects the best out of us every day.
3. Since last year the aspect of my training I've worked on the most is my footwork.
4. My best friend on another college lacrosse team is Brian McCullough (UMBC). He was my roommate my freshman year before I transferred to Carolina.
5. My greatest strength as a lacrosse player is my clearing game.
Section #2 (Matt's Interests)
1. Away from the lacrosse field and academic pursuits I like to spend time with my friends and family.
2. The best movie I've seen recently is Horrible Bosses.
3. If I could compete in another sport at UNC it would be golf.
4. The music act I'd most like to see in person is Bruce Springsteen.
5. The personal interest I have that might surprise my teammates is I'm very passionate about politics.
Section #3 (Food and Beverage)
1. After a game at Fetzer Field, I'd like to see a tailgate spread that included some Carolina BBQ and IP3 Pizza.
2. My favorite beverage is sweet tea.
3. My favorite food made by a relative is Uncle Mac's steak and Aunt Sherry's chocolate sauce.
4. My favorite place to eat in Chapel Hill is Top of the Hill.
5. My favorite guilty pleasure food wise is Chipotle.
Section #4 (Digging Into Matt's Personality)
1. If I possessed the gift of time travel I'd like to go to ancient Rome and be a gladiator.
2. My most prized personal possession is a blanket my grandma made for me when I was born.
3. If I could go to dinner with a famous person it would be George W. Bush.
4. My dream job is to work for the Baltimore Ravens.
5. The most interesting people I've met at UNC are the Smith brothers.
