Aimee Neff enters her first season as the associate head women's golf coach at the the University of North Carolina for 2017-18.
A native of Carmel, Ind., Neff was an assistant coach at Vanderbilt during the 2016-17 season. Prior to Vanderbilt, Neff was an assistant coach at Michigan State from 2013-16, where in 2014 she helped coach the Spartans to their 11th Big Ten Championship and an NCAA Championship appearance.
"I am thrilled to be joining the Tar Heel family," Neff said when hired in July 2017. "It is an honor to be at UNC and part of the women's golf program, as it demonstrates excellence in the classroom and on the course. Coach [Jan] Mann is one of the best in the business and I could not be more excited to learn from and work with her. This is a dream come true to be wearing Carolina blue. Go Heels!"
As a student-athlete, Neff competed at Michigan State and is one of only three Spartans to earn All-Big Ten honors four times, including first-team honors as a senior in 2011. She also helped Michigan State to its ninth Big Ten Championship in 2011. She ended her collegiate career ranked fifth all-time in Spartan history in career scoring average. She also recorded 13 top-10 finishes in her career and was awarded the Big Ten Conference Medal of Honor as a senior in 2011.
In 2009, Neff helped her team to a Tar Heel Invitational victory at the UNC Finley Golf Course. Her team's 860 round of 54-hole score still ranks as the second-lowest in Spartan history.
At Michigan State, Neff not only excelled on the golf course, but also in the classroom. She was named to the NGCA All-Scholar Team and Academic All-Big Ten Team in 2009, 2010, and 2011, graduating with a 3.66 GPA in communication in May 2011.
Professionally, Neff played on the Symetra Tour from 2011-14, where she competed in the 2012 U.S. Women's Open, had two top-five finishes in 2012, was the llinois Women's Open champion in 2008 and 2009 and was the Indiana Women's Open champion in 2009 and 2010. Neff also played on the Australian Ladies Professional Golf Tour in the winter of 2013.
"Aimee is a perfect fit for our university and women's golf program," head coach Jan Mann said. "With her coaching experience at Michigan State and Vanderbilt, she understands the importance of combining strong academics with a very competitive golf team. Aimee's background as a former collegiate athlete, professional golfer and coach along with her tremendous enthusiasm for the game makes her a great addition to our Carolina family."
