General—Returns as the top defender in the college game...three-year letterwinner...has become a mainstay as the starting center back on the U.S. National Team as well...has started at that position for over two years and is the likely starter there for the U.S. in the 2003 Women’s World Cup...played in a reserve role for Carolina much of her freshman year before becoming the Tar Heels’ starting central defender as a sophomore...she has earned consensus All-America honors each of her past two years.
ODP Soccer Experience—Currently a member of the U.S. National Team where she is the starting center defender for Coach April Heinrichs’ team...has been a member of the team since 2000 and starter since the summer of 2001...she had earned 25 caps through the conclusion of the 2002 season...played club soccer for 10 years for the Attack Club Soccer Team...also played on the U.S. Under-21 National Team which competed at the Nordic Cup in the summer of 2000...captain of the U.S. Under-18 National Team in 2000 and a member of the U.S. Under-18 National Team in 1998 and 1999...started 1998 as member of U.S. Under-16 National Team before moving up to the Under 18 team....member of the U.S. team which won the gold medal at the 1999 Pan American Games.
2002 Season—Consensus first-team All-America selection by the NSCAA coaches, Soccer Buzz and Soccer America...named first-team All-Southeast Region by both the NSCAA coaches and Soccer Buzz...finalist for Honda Award, Soccer Buzz National Player of the Year Award and Missouri Athletic Club Hermann Trophy...first-team All-ACC selection...Soccer Buzz Southeast Region Player of the Year...finalist for U.S. Soccer Chevy Young Female Athlete of the Year award...named to All-Tournament Team at NCAA final four...despite commitments to the U.S. National Team she saw action in 17 matches, starting 15 times...she had the best scoring game of her career against Clemson in the ACC Tournament championship match with two goals and one assist...she played that match in Tallahassee, Fla. just 12 hours after finishing a game with the U.S. National Team in Pasadena, Calif....she had 17 points on the season with six goals and five assists...she scored the game-winning goal against USC...had three goals and three assists in NCAA play including one goal and one assists against Wake Forest in the second round and Tennessee in the third round.
2001 Season—Named first-team All-America by Soccer Buzz and Soccer America and second-team All-America by the NSCAA...a first-team All-Southeast selection by the NSCAA and Soccer Buzz...named All-Tournament in the NCAA College Cup..started all 23 games she played in for the Tar Heels as a sophomore...a first-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference selection...was named to the Soccer America National Team of the Week on two occasions--on September 25, 2001 and on October 16, 2001...she had three goals and seven assists on the season...she had a goal and two assists in the win over Georgia, scored the game-winning goal in UNC’s regular season win over Florida State and another in the ACC Tournament semifinal win over Wake Forest...had other assists against Missouri, UAB, Maryland, Virginia and NC State in the ACC Tournament..
2000 Season—Named First Team Freshman All-America by Soccer Buzz...was named to the All-Tournament Team at the 2000 NCAA final four...was then tapped as the Most Valuable Defensive Player of the NCAA final four...member of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Freshman All-America Team...named to NSCAA Southeast Region All-Freshman Team...played in all 24 games for the Tar Heels...she started only one game and ironically that was the NCAA Tournament championship game against UCLA...she went on to win NCAA final four defensive MVP honors in that game...she scored five goals and had five assists on the season for 15 points...her biggest goal of the season came as the game winner against UCLA in the national championship game with less than nine minutes to play...she scored one goal in each of the first two games of the season against Texas and Texas A&M...coincidentally both goals were scored with less than one minute remaining in the first half and each goal forged 1-1 ties at halftime...she also had goals against Oregon and against Maryland...she recorded two assists against both Texas and TCU and had a single assist in the win over South Carolina...named Carolina’s Rookie Player of the Year in 2000.
Prep—Graduated May 21, 2000 from Briarwood Christian School...played four years of soccer and three years of basketball...1999 and 2000 Parade All-America selection...four-time all-state selection...three-time Optimist Club Player of the Year...in soccer she was the Birmingham News’ State and Metro Player of the Year...two-time Alabama Gatorade Soccer Player of the Year...led basketball team to Final Four twice and soccer team to four high school state titles...named all-state in basketball as a senior...Birmingham News’ Shelby County Player of the Year in basketball...Birmingham Magazine’s Top Six People of 1999 selection...member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Special Equestrians and Birmingham Belles service organization...active in church youth group and in fund-raising for Kids Without Toys program.
