Gary Wayne Harding joined the North Carolina wrestling staff as an assistant coach in December.
In Harding's first season on staff, the Tar Heels went 14-3 in the regular season and crowned three ACC champions at the 2020 ACC Wrestling Championships.

Harding was an NCAA qualifier for the Tar Heels as a senior in 2019 and played a crucial role in the team's 2018-19 ACC regular season championship. Before transferring to Carolina, Harding spent four years at Oklahoma State.

Harding went 27-13 with UNC in 2018-19, going 10-5 in dual meets and 4-1 in ACC competition. His win over Virginia Tech's No. 12 Korbin Myers helped UNC to an upset win over the Hokies.Â

The Collinsville, Oklahoma, native was a two-time NCAA qualifier at Oklahoma State. A Collinsville High School graduate, Harding was a four-time 5A Oklahoma state champion, compiling a 166-14 record.
