Glen Lanham is in his fourth season as an assistant coach with the University of North Carolina wrestling program. He works with the Tar Heels' upper weight groups (174 pounds and up) and coordinates Carolina's recruiting efforts.
Lanham's hard work also has played a key role in landing some of the nation's top high school talent over the past three seasons, including a 2006-07 recruiting class that was rated 20th nationally by InterMat.
On the mat, Lanham has mentored four Atlantic Coast Conference champions over the last three seasons, and has coached seven NCAA qualifiers at Carolina. Additionally, heavyweight Spencer Nadolsky posted the third most victories (42) in UNC history under Lanham's tutelage a year ago.
A high school wrestling coach from 1991-2003, Lanham came to Chapel Hill from Midwest City High School in Oklahoma where he worked as an assistant wrestling coach and teacher since 1997. While at Midwest, he coached numerous state champions that went on to compete on the collegiate level at schools like Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Duke.
Before teaching, he worked as a graduate assistant coach at Oklahoma State from 1988-91, helping the Cowboys to a pair of national championships.
As a competitor, Lanham earned All-America honors at both Oklahoma State and Tennessee. He also competed internationally for Sunkist Kids and was a freestyle All-America.
A native of New York, Lanham graduated from Tennessee in August 1988 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in human service with an emphasis in juvenile counseling.
Lanham's wife, Melanie, has a master's degree in exercise physiology.
