Mohamed Abdelfatah
- Title:
- Volunteer Assistant
North Carolina Wrestling head coach Coleman Scott announced the addition of Mohamed Abdelfatah to his coaching staff in November 2023, joining the Tar Heels as a volunteer assistant.
Â
In 2023, Abdelfatah helped North Carolina secure its seventh individual National Champion, as Austin O’Connor was victorious at 157-pounds, the second individual title of his career. O’Connor’s finish made him the first wrestler in program history to garner All-America honors five times, with Lachlan McNeil and Gavin Kane adding podium finishes for UNC’s best team finish since 1995.
As an athlete, the 2006 Senior World champion was a two-time World Cup champion and a three-time Olympic qualifier (2000, 2004, 2012). Abdelfatah also added five African Championships, three Mediterranean Games titles and two All-African Games gold medals to his resume.
Â
After concluding his career, Abdelfatah transitioned to coaching, arriving in Chapel Hill with experience working with the USA National Team and Swedish National Team.
