Ryan Vanhoy is in his third year coaching with the University of North Carolina cross country and track and field programs. Vanhoy is in his first year as the head coach of the men's and women's cross country teams, while also assisting the distance runners on the track and field squad. Vanhoy worked as an assistant on the cross country and track teams for one year, and was a volunteer assistant coach for one year after competing for the Tar Heel cross country and track and field programs as an undergraduate.
In his first year coaching men's middle distance, Vanhoy had a conference scorer at the 2011 ACC Outdoor Championships. Vanhoy also coaches the Tar Heels' volunteer assistant coach Addie Bracy who qualified for the 2012 Olympic Trials, posting marks of 15:49 for 5,000m and 33:08 for 10,000m during the 2011 season.
In addition to his coaching experience at Carolina, Vanhoy also interned for the Zap Fitness professional running group for three summers (2008-2010) under coach Peter Rea.
Vanhoy, who graduated from UNC in 2009 with a bachelor's of science in biology, completed his master's degree in exercise physiology in the fall of 2011.
