1998 Season Review

The Tar Heels finished 6-2 in conference play to claim the Atlantic Coast Conference regular-season championship and earned the top seed in the ACC Tournament.

Coach Donna Papa was named ACC Coach of the Year for the second time in three years after leading the Tar Heels to their second conference title in three years.

Senior Brandy Arthur earned ACC Player of the Year honors after leading the conference in batting average (.376) and RBI (40/0.75 per game), finishing third in ERA (1.46) and fourth in doubles (13/ 0.25 per game). Arthur was named All-Southeast Region and All-America at the designated player position.

Freshman Radara McHugh earned ACC Rookie of the Year honors after leading the conference with an ERA of 1.37.

Senior Lorin Slade, a first baseman, earned All-ACC and All-ACC Tournament honors. She led the league in doubles with 13 (0.28 per game) and batted .342.

Sophomore Crystal Henderson led the ACC in triples with eight and earned second-team All-Southeast Region honors.

Freshman Michelle Semmes ranked second in the ACC in batting average (.370) and third in doubles (13/0.25 per game).
