North Carolina freshman guard-forward Jason Capel, out since the NC State game in mid-January because of mononucleosis, has been given medical clearance to participate in practice beginning this afternoon.
Capel has not played since the win at NC State. He missed the next three days of practice because of illness and was diagnosed with mono on January 22nd. Capel started the 18 games he played in this season. He is averaging 9.8 points and 4.8 rebounds per game and is one of the top free throw shooters in the ACC. Capel has made 53 of 62 attempts at the line, a percentage of .855.
The Tar Heels return to action Saturday at 4 p.m. at Maryland. Capel's status for that game will not be determined until later this week.
