University of North Carolina sophomore men's basketball forward Vasco Evtimov will be eligible after sitting out 11 games, rather than 16 as an initial ruling stated, the NCAA Division I Sub-committee on Student-Athlete Reinstatement has ruled.
Evtimov has already sat out the Tar Heels' first seven games as a result of playing in 16 games in the French National A League as the tryout for the French National Team. The NCAA Sub-committee on Student-Athlete Reinstatement told the University Evtimov must sit out a number of games because they felt he had gained a competitive advantage while playing for the team in Pau, France.
However, the Sub-committee reduced from 16 to 11 the number of games he must sit out because the French Basketball Federation confirmed what UNC officials had found in its review. The Federation confirmed Evtimov was only doing what he had been instructed to do in order to try out for the French National Team as a member of the French military.
Evtimov will have to sit out upcoming contests against Old Dominion, College of Charleston, Buffalo and UNC Charlotte. He is now eligible to play against Louisville on December 17th.
