UNC Field Hockey Falls To No. 1 Old Dominion, 2-1 in OT

NORFOLK, Va.-The top-ranked Old Dominion field hockey team posted a 2-1 overtime victory over No. 2 North Carolina Saturday afternoon at Foreman Field. With the win, Old Dominion improves to 18-1 overall (5-0 CAA) while North Carolina falls to 16-2 overall (4-0 ACC). Both of the Tar Heels' losses this season have come to ODU, and both have been by one goal.
After neither team scored in the first half, junior midfielder Carrie Lingo got the Tar Heels on the board with 7:19 remaining in the game. She scored on a penalty corner, assisted by junior back Abby Martin.
With just under three minutes left in regulation, ODU's Marina DiGiacomo scored on a penalty corner to tied the game and send it into the extra period. Just over halfway through the overtime, DiGiacomo scored the game-winning goal, on a penalty stroke.
UNC plays its final game of the regular season on Sunday, taking on William & Mary in Norfolk, Va., at noon. ODU also finishes its regular season Sunday with a 2 p.m. game against Temple.
