Butkus Award Names UNC's Sedrick Hodge To Watch List

ORLANDO, Fla. - The Downtown Athletic Club of Orlando, Inc. (DACO), the organizat ion which annually presents the prestigious Butkus Award to the nation's best linebacker, is pleased to add the University of North Carolina's Sedrick Hodge to this year's Butkus Award Watch List.
The Atlanta native and three-year UNC starter has been officially added to the 2000 Butkus Award Watch List. Hodge leads the Tar Heels with nine tackles for loss in the first five games. He also has four quarterback sacks, six quarterback hurries, two pass breakups and has forced two fumbles. Currently he is third on the team with 39 total tackles. Rarely does the Downtown Athletic Club of Orlando, Inc. make an addition to the Butkus Award Watch List. "We feel that Sedrick's all-around athletic ability and solid play so far this season has earned him the right to be listed as a Butkus Award candidate," said Chip Landon, Butkus Award Chairman.
The Butkus Award Selection Committee, comprised of 28 national media members, will announce the 10-Semi Finalists on October 19. The finalists will be announced via a national teleconference on November 9 at Spectators Sports Bar at the Downtown Orlando Marriott. The 2000 Butkus Award winner will be announced at the Butkus Award Gala, sponsored by Cooper Tire, on December 8 at Hard Rock Live at Universal Studios CityWalk in Orlando.
Hodge's North Carolina teammate Brandon Spoon was named to the original watch list back on August 24th. The Downtown Athletic Club of Orlando, Inc. and the Butkus Award are celebrating their 16th anniversary.
