
Carolina Volleyball Downs Maryland

College Park, Md. - The University of North Carolina volleyball team continued ACC action with a win over Maryland 15-13, 15-10, 15-12. Freshman Nicole Reis paced the Tar Heels with a match-high 17 kills and nine digs. Carolina leads the ACC with a 5-0 record and are 15-3 overall. Maryland falls to 1-5 in the ACC and 9-8 for the season.
Carolina was able to defeat the Terrapins in game one with both teams posting identical kills. The game remained tight and UNC was able to hold Maryland off for a 15-13 win. Games two and three were also close, but the Tar Heel defense kept the Terrapins to a .200 hitting percentage in the second game. and continued to outhit Maryland in game three. As a team, Carolina recorded 48 kills to Maryland's 37.
Casey Simpson registered a double-double with 11 kills and 12 digs. This is the sixth time this season Simpson has posted double digits in kills and digs. Eve Rackham notched a match-high 42 assists, five digs and three blocks while Krista Buchholz chipped in a match-high four blocks.
Maryland was led by Carey Brennan with 10 kills and 15 digs. Maren Stuart posted a team-high 12 kills and Lindsay Davey collected 10 digs.
The Tar Heels have one more stop to make before heading home. Carolina will face Virginia Saturday night (Oct. 7) at 7:30 in Charlottesville.
