University of North Carolina freshman guard Joseph Forte was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Rookie of the Week for his performances in UNC wins against NC State and Wake Forest.

Forte scored 16 points, including two three-pointers, in the win at NC State last Wednesday. He also grabbed five rebounds against the Pack.

Forte, from Greenbelt, Md., hit six consecutive three-point attempts in Carolina's 87-64 win over Wake Forest on Saturday. He finished with 24 points, his fifth 20-point outing of the season. It was his second-highest scoring output behind a 27-point game at Virginia.

He leads the Tar Heels and is eighth in the ACC in scoring at 16.0 points per game. No Carolina freshman has ever led the team in scoring. Forte is currently the top freshman scorer in the ACC.
