CHAPEL HILL -- North Carolina junior Ryan Earey has been named the ACC's Co-Player of the Week for baseball. A Wilmington, N.C., native, Earey is a designated hitter, first baseman and pitcher for the Tar Heels and leads the team with a .432 batting average, five home runs and 24 RBI.
Last week, Earey helped third-ranked Carolina improve to 13-0 on the year with wins over No. 19 East Carolina and a three-game sweep of Seton Hall. Earey batted 7-for-14, with two homers and a double, and added 10 runs batted in. In the 15-8 win over Seton Hall on Feb. 26, he was 3-for-3, including a three-run home run to deep center field, with a career-high-tying seven RBI. He also pitched 2.1 innings of scoreless relief in the Seton Hall series.
Earey shares the honor this week with Wake Forest third baseman Corey Slavik.
