Heels Back Home To Face UNCG
March 18, 2026 | Baseball
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Diamond Heels make their way back from the Golden Coast for a Wednesday afternoon midweek matchup with a local foe in UNCG.Â
It will be the first time Carolina has faced the team from about an hour up I-40 from Chapel Hill since 2021. The Spartans came away with a win that day in late May in head coach Scott Forbes' first season at the helm. Ironically, it was also a midweek matchup leading into a weekend series against Louisville. UNC would go on to sweep the Cardinals at the Bosh.Â

BROUGHT THE BROOMS TO THE BAY
➤ Carolina traveled out to Berkeley, Calif., for a showdown with the red-hot Cal Golden Bears, the first road trip of the season for Forbes team, and they emerged with an impressive sweep.
➤ Outscoring the home team 24-5 across the three games, UNC picked up their first road sweep since 2024.Â
➤ Friday night saw the Heels take an 8-1 win in the opener. Elite outfield defending paired with an efficient  one-run night from Jason DeCaro on the mound got the weekend off on the right foot.Â
➤ Saturday ace Ryan Lynch kept the ball rolling in a 6-2 win, going a career long 8.0 IP while holding Cal to two runs on six hits and one walk. He also matched his career best with seven strikeouts.Â
➤ Sunday's finale was a 10-2 win highlighted by the bats. Carolina had 10 different players reach safely while racking up 10 hits and 11 walks. UNC had double digit hits in all three games.Â
NON-CON COMBAT
➤ The Heels have compiled a 114-35-1 (.763) record in games against non-ACC opponents under Forbes. This team is currently 13-1-1 out of conference.Â
➤ Last season, they were 25-4 against out of conference foes. The 2024 team was 24-6.
➤ Since 2020, UNC has won (or split) 13 of its 14 three-game non-conference weekend series with a 33-7-1 mark in that span.
NO PLACE LIKE THE BOSH
➤ The Tar Heels have won 77.3 percent of their home games under Scott Forbes, going 154-45-1.
➤ The 2025 squad racked up a 29-9 (.763) home record, winning five of seven series.Â
➤ The Tar Heels boasted a 37-3 record at Boshamer Stadium in 2024, winning a program record 92.5 percent of its games at home.
➤ It was the 13th time in program history the Tar Heels won 30 or more home games.
➤ Originally opened in 1972 before reopening in 2009 after a $26 million renovation, the Bosh has been the site for many magical memories. Since '09, the Heels have hosted 10 regionals and eight supers in their palace affectionately referred to as the "Augusta National of College Baseball."Â
