General Information: One of the top defensemen in the country...a captain of the 2000 UNC team...a 2000 pre-season third-team All-America selection by Faceoff Magazine...he started 50 successive games in a Tar Heel uniform...that streak began his freshman year and included every game the Tar Heels played in during the 1998, 1999 and 2000 seasons...had 179 takeaways in his career, the fourth most in UNC history...member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Council at UNC...was asked to try out for the under-19 world team in 1996...when he came to Carolina he was the first Loyola Don to come to school at UNC since Gregg Langhoff, Class of 1994...one of the top scholar athletes on the UNC team...has a 3.586 cumulative grade point average at Carolina...has been named to the Dean's List at Carolina in six of his first seven semesters in school...has been named to the ACC Acadmic Honor Roll his first three years as a Tar Heel.
2000 Season: Winner of Athletic Director's Scholar-Athlete Award as top student-athlete on the 2000 UNC Men's Lacrosse Team...nominated for GTE/CoSIDA Spring At-Large Academic All-America Team...started all 14 games for the Tar Heels in 2000 as Carolina posted its first winning season since 1996, going 8-6...finished third on the team in takeaways with 45...scored one goal (vs. Pennsylvania) and had one assist (vs. Virginia)...scooped up 57 ground balls to rank fifth on the 2000 squad.
1999 Season: Had another outstanding season for the Tar Heels in 1999...won the team's Dan Andrews Sportsmanship Award...started all 15 games of the season for Carolina...ranked third on the team in takeaways with 37...was also third on the team in ground balls with 53..recorded a season high six ground balls...top game for takeaways was five against Delaware. 1998 Season: One of only two Tar Heels to play and start in all 15 games in 1998...was a strong force on defense, totaling 67 ground balls and 57 takeaways...only had eight turnovers all season...had a career high 11 ground balls and seven takeaways against Johns Hopkins...also had a strong outing against Maryland with six ground balls and eight takeaways...finished the season with two assists...named to Dean's list for the fall semester of 1998 and the spring semester of 1999...won the Turnbull Trophy as the team's Most Valuable Player...won the Holmes Harden, Sr. Memorial Award for leading the team in ground balls...named an honorable mention All-America by the U.S. Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association.
1997 Season: Was one of the top freshmen defenseman in the country...played in all 13 games for Carolina ...started in six games--against Navy, Virginia, Radford, Delaware, Virginia in the ACC Tournament and Hofstra...was among the team leaders in ground balls with 36...finished second on the team with 40 takeaways...had a season-high five ground balls against Loyola and Virginia and seven takeaways against Hofstra... made the Dean's List in both the fall of 1996 and the spring of 1997...was named the recipient of the Jay Gallagher Award as the squad's outstanding freshman player.
Prep: Named first-team All-Metro by the Baltimore Sun his senior year...was also a finalist for the C. Maryland Kelly Award in 1996 as the Maryland Scholastic Association player of the year in the sport of lacrosse...played soccer, football, basketball, and lacrosse in high school...first-team all-county selection in lacrosse as a junior and a senior...member of Maryland Select team in 1995...was a First-Team selection to the Towson Times all-metro squad in 1995 and 1996...received the Headmasters Scholarship as a student at the Loyola Blakefield School... achieved first honors every quarter.
