Joseph Forte Named ACC Player Of The Week

North Carolina's Joseph Forte has been tabbed as the Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week in voting by a select panel of the Atlantic Coast Conference Sportswriters Association (ACSWA).Forte is averaging a team-best 20.5 points per game for the Tar Heels, 9-2 heading into tonight's conference opener at Georgia Tech.
Forte earned Player of the Week recognition after leading North Carolina past Massachusetts and College of Charleston in last weekend's Hardee's Tournament of Champions in Charlotte. A sophomore from Greenbelt, Md., he was named tournament MVP after scoring 45 points in the two games.
Forte led all players with a game-high 29 points - including 17 in the second half on 6-of-10 shooting - in the championship game against College of Charleston on Saturday. He also added six rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block in the 64-60 win. Against UMass on Friday, Forte tallied a team-high 16 points and four steals in the 91-60 win. In the two games combined, Forte shot 52.9 percent from the floor (18 of 34).
Virginia's Maurice Young took the ACC Freshman of the Week honor for the first time this season after scoring in double figures in both of the Cavaliers' games last week.
