UNC Women's Cross Country Takes First at Wolverine Interregional

Led by Shalane Flanagan's first-place finish, the No. 8 UNC women's cross country won the Michigan Interregional with 26 points Sunday in Ann Arbor, Mich. Wisconsin finished behind the Tar Heels with 47 points, while Purdue took third with 65 points.
Flanagan won the meet with a time of 17:26, which was 36 seconds faster than her closest competitor. Despite a rain-soaked course, Flanagan's time ranks her sixth among the top performers in Wolverine Interregional history.
Carolina had three other runners in the top ten and six in the top 20. Carol Henry placed third at 18:25 and Kim Timberlake took sixth at 6:05. Rebecca Walker ran 19:10 to take the 11th spot, while Bobbie Munson finished 20th with a time of 19:38.
Wisconsin's Bethany Brewster finished second behind Flanagan at 18:02, while Lindsay Zinn from Purdue placed fourth with a time of 18:33.
