North Carolina Post-game Notes
Curry Sets UNC Career Total Offense Record: Ronald Curry moved into possession of UNC's career total offense record with 167 yards. Curry threw for a season-high 127 yards and rushed for a season-high 40 yards against the Pirates. He now has 5,521 career total offense yards, surpassing Jason Stanicek's 5,497 yards from 1991-94.
Curry Moves Into Second In Passing/QB Rushing: With 127 passing yards today, Ronald Curry moved into second place all-time at UNC with 4,464 yards in his career. He is 219 yards behind career-leader Jason Stanicek (4,683). Curry's 40 rushing yards moved him into second place all-time among quarterbacks at Carolina with 1,057 yards rushing. He is 103 yards behind career QB rushing leader Jim Lalanne (1,160).
Durant Breaks Freshman TD Record: With two TD strikes today, Darian Durant now has eight touchdown passes through the first six games of his freshman season, a new UNC record for TD passes by a freshman. Ronald Curry held the previous record with six in 1998. Durant also had two TD passes against Oklahoma, Florida State and NC State.
Tar Heels In Blue: Carolina wore blue tops and blue pants together for the first time since Sept. 26, 1992. Carolina played NC State that day and lost 27-20 at Kenan Stadium. The Tar Heels typically wear blue tops and white pants at home and all white on the road.
New Look On Line: True freshman Jason Brown made the first start of his career, starting in place of Willie McNeill at right tackle. Isaac Morford started at left guard. Morford also started at Texas but Jupiter Wilson started UNC's other four games at that position.
Longest TD Drive: Carolina's nine-play, 89-yard second-quarter touchdown drive was its longest scoring drive of the season. The previous longest drive was 86 yards against Oklahoma. Both drives have been led by QB Darian Durant.
Reed Boots Career Long: Jeff Reed's 49-yard field goal in the fourth quarter established a new career-best for the senior. Reed's previous best was a 48-yarder last season against Marshall.
Borders Has Big Day: Chesley Borders had 83 yards on six receptions, a new career high for receptions and yards. Borders also caught his third touchdown pass of the season, a 29-yard grab in the second quarter.
Allen Back On Track: Bosley Allen had four receptions for 42 yards, both highs since the season-opener at Oklahoma. After catching six balls for 74 yards against the Sooners, Allen had made just four catches for 42 yards over the next four games before today.
