Midnight With The Tar Heels Set For Friday Evening

CHAPEL HILL -- The University of North Carolina men's basketball season gets underway with a midnight practice on Friday, October 12, at Carmichael Auditorium. 'Midnight with the Tar Heels' is open to the general public and admission is free.
Head coach Matt Doherty and the 2001-02 Tar Heels will officially begin practice at midnight, but activities begin an hour earlier at 11 p.m. Doherty will be joined by former Carolina All-Americas and guest coaches Brad Daugherty and Phil Ford and by ESPN anchor Stuart Scott.
Doherty and his staff will play the campus student champions in a 4-on-4 game.
The men's basketball action follows a volleyball match between the Tar Heels and the University of Kansas. Head coach Joe Sagula's Tar Heels take on the Jayhawks beginning at 9 p.m.
Also, the women's basketball team led by head coach Sylvia Hatchell will be introduced on Friday night.
Admission to Carmichael Auditorium begins at 6 p.m.
General public parking will be available at the Smith Center, Boshamer Stadium, Ramshead (Ridge Road), Bell Tower (Raleigh Road) and Highway 54 parking lots.
