Chapel Hill -- Former Virginia guard Curtis Staples scored 31 points on nine of 15 three-pointers to lead the EA All-Stars to a 107-76 victory over North Carolina in the Smith Center on Sunday afternoon.
As a team, the EA All-Stars hit 11 of 16 three-pointers in the second half and shot 56.8 percent overall from the field after halftime. The All-Stars outscored Carolina, 63-33, in the second half. Carolina shot just 35.3 percent after the break and just 6 for 33 from behind the three-point arc in the game.
Tar Heel senior center Kris Lang led all scorers with 34 points on 14 of 23 shooting. Fellow senior Jason Capel sat out the game in street clothes with a sore left hamstring. Capel missed practice late last week with the hamstring injury.
Carolina will return to action on Saturday afternoon at approximately 4:30 p.m. against the Nke Elite squad in its final exhibition action of the 2001-02 season. The game will begin 90 minutes after the conclusion of the UNC-Wake Forest football game, which will begin at noon.
