UNC Softball's Sarah Young Earns Academic Honor

CHAPEL HILL, N.C.--Sarah Young, a senior on the University of North Carolina softball team, has been named a National Fastpitch Coaches Association Scholar-Athlete for the 2000-01 school year.
To be eligible for the honor, a player must have earned a grade point average of 3.5 or higher for the year. Young, who is working toward a major in exercise and sport science with a minor in mathematical sciences, achieved a GPA of 3.68 during her junior year.
Young appeared in 32 games last season for the Tar Heels, the 2001 ACC Champions. She started 18 games at second base and also made frequent appearances as a pinch runner. She has earned spots on the Dean's List and ACC Honor Roll at UNC and is active in Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Athletes in Action.
Young is from Annandale, Va., and attended Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology.
