TarHeelBlue: How do you feel about your performance today?
Scott Autrey: "Obviously, it felt good just to get the win. I feel like I did well enough for the first outing.
"I didn't have my best stuff, but what I like is that I pitched better than I did last year. I pitched well without my good stuff. That's something I couldn't do last year.
"I'm proud of that, it's a mental thing. It was good to get a win without my good stuff."
TarHeelBlue: What's your best pitch, the fastball?
Scott Autrey: "It's usually the fastball, I guess it was today. I hit my spots pretty well, but I didn't have the velocity I usually have."
TarHeelBlue: Would you have liked to have stayed in an inning or two longer?
Scott Autrey: "I would have like to, I always like to stay in a little bit longer. I had a pitch count today, which is why I came out. I'm not sure what the count was.
"I think I threw 83 pitches for the game. Once I got that many, they said 'Good job, you're coming out.'
"Overall, it was a pretty good performance for an opening game."
TarHeelBlue: What did you see that pleased you today?
Coach Fox: "That was a pretty good debut for us. It was unexpected, but we swung the bat well.
"We had Adam (Greenberg) and Russ (Adams) really set the table well for us in the first and third innings. I thought that was key. That big nine-run third inning where we started off with two bunts was big, the bottom kind of fell out for them.
"We swung the bat well, hit the ball to all fields, and had a little power. We had a good combination of starting pitching and hitting.
"It was a great day for us, a very good start."
TarHeelBlue: What did you see that disappointed you?
Coach Fox: "Not much. We would have rather have finished the game a little cleaner, but these young pitchers, you've just got to sit there and keep encouraging them.
"I'm not going to judge them after one outing. You know they're trying as hard as they can. You know they're nervous. It was their first time out in front of a crowd in a Carolina uniform. They want to do the best they can. It's going to happen for some and not for others.
"We would have run some different pitchers in there at the end if the game had been closer, but it was an opportunity for us to get three more guys in there to pitch.
"We need those guys to get the experience. They need to get the nerves out of their system."
