MOBILE, ALA. -- Down 6-2 entering the eighth inning against Minnesota Sunday afternoon at the Coca-Cola Classic in Mobile, Ala., the University of North Carolina baseball team rallied for two runs in the bottom of the eighth and three in the ninth to score a 7-6 win over the Gophers at Henry Aaron Stadium. The Tar Heels (5-2) bounced back from two lopsided losses in the first two days of the tournament for their fifth victory of the season, while Minnesota was winless at the 16th annual Coca-Cola Classic.
Carolina jumped out to an early lead against Minnesota with two runs in first inning. Russ Adams, batting in the leadoff slot, scored the game's first run and a Ralph Roberts triple scored Chad Prosser, who doubled in his first at bat.
Minnesota countered with two runs in the second, one in the third and three more in the fifth to pull ahead 6-2.
ut just as Carolina had done one week ago in a 7-6 come-from-behind win over James Madison, the Tar Heels battled back from the 6-2 deficit for the 7-6 victory. Russ Adams had an RBI triple in the eighth then later scored on a Chad Prosser ground out. And in the ninth, Adams had an RBI single with one out for the game-winner.
The Tar Heels are back in action Wednesday versus High Point then host Seton Hall next weekend in a three-game series at Boshamer Stadium.
