CHAPEL HILL, N.C. --- After setting a school record for team score last Saturday, the University of North Carolina gymnastics team tied its week-old record Friday night by defeating the College of William & Mary 195.075 to 191.575 at Carmichael Auditorium.
Finishing the all-around competition with a personal best score of 38.950, junior Lisa Companioni claimed the meet's all-around title by placing second on the balance beam with a 9.800, third on the floor with a personal best score of 9.850 and third on vault with a 9.725 score.
The Tar Heels swept the top four spots in the all-around as senior Brooke Wilson finished second (38.875), freshman Maddy Curley third (38.725) and sophomore Fritzie Cathcart set a personal best score of 38.525 to finish fourth.
"We matched our best tonight," said UNC Head Coach Derek Galvin. "I'm very pleased with the team's effort. They put so much into it tonight."
Curley set two personal records by placing second on floor (9.900) and fourth on parallel bars (9.775) en route to her third place finish in the all-around.
Sophomore Natalie Halbach placed first on balance beam with a score of 9.900, while junior Monica Middleton also claimed victory by setting a personal best score of 9.800 on vault.
UNC hosts Eastern Michigan, Illinois and Radford Sunday, March 4, in Carmichael Auditorium at 1 p.m.
