Baseball Takes 9-3 Win Over Le Moyne

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- North Carolina defeated Le Moyne College 9-3 at Boshamer Stadium on Friday afternoon earning Mike Fox his 100th career victory as head coach at North Carolina.
Starting pitcher Dennis Robinson picked up his first career victory, scattering 10 hits and 3 runs over 5.1 innings while walking 3 and striking out 5. Scott Senatore came in and pitched 2.2 innings of scoreless relief and Kevin Brower came in to wrap things up in the ninth. Starter Jaime Steward took the loss for the Dolphins, pitching only 1 inning and giving up 3 runs on 2 hits before leaving the game with an injury.
The Tar Heels jumped out to an early lead, scoring three runs in the first inning. Adam Greenberg was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning then advanced on Russ Adams' (3-5, 2RBI, 3SB) infield single. Greenberg scored on a throwing error by the catcher and Adams was brought home by a Ryan Blake (1-2, 2RBI) sacrifice fly. A single to center field by Jeremy Cleveland later scored Sean Farrell (1-2, 2runs) who had reached on a walk.
Carolina scored two more runs in the bottom of the second but Le Moyne countered with two in the top of the third to pull within three runs. Sam Parkins (2-2, RBI) led off the inning with a double then advanced to third on an infield single by Eddie Harper. After a walk to Anthony Aguilino (2-4) to load the bases, Robinson then walked Scott Edwardsen to plate the Dolphins' first run. The following batter, Mike Pecchia grounded out to shortstop, scoring Harper.
The Tar Heels pulled ahead for good with an RBI single by Ron Braun in the bottom of the third, scoring Ryan Blake who was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. A Ralph Roberts double in the bottom of the sixth scored Chris Maples to put Carolina up 7-3. The Tar Heels once again scored twice in the bottom of the seventh. Adams singled to lead off the inning, then stole second and third and scored on a throwing error by Brett Woodcock, Le Moyne's catcher. The final run of the day was scored by Farrell who was driven in by a Blake double to left.
Carolina continues the series against Le Moyne College Saturday at 1 p.m. and Sunday at 1:30 p.m. Daniel Moore is scheduled to start Saturday's game while Scott Manshack will start on Sunday.
