Several of Carolina's baseball players playing this summer in the prestigious Cape Cod Baseball League celebrated July 4th in fine fashion Wednesday.
Jeremy Cleveland and Adam Greenberg powered the visiting Chatham A's to a 10-2 win over Russ Adams and the Orleans Cardinals. Cleveland, who was 2-for-3 with five RBIs, had a first-inning grand slam to spark the A's, while Greenberg was 2-for-4 and scored three times and stole one base. Adams was 0-for-3 batting in the leadoff spot for Orleans, but his .287 batting average is among the league leaders this summer, and he ranks fourth in the Cape with seven stolen bases. Cleveland is tied for tops in the CCBL with 14 RBIs through 20 games.
In Brewster, Dennis Robinson pitched a scoreless ninth inning to earn his second save as the Whitecaps beat the visiting Harwich Mariners, 6-3.
Meanwhile, Scott Autrey and Daniel Moore are also playing well in the Cape this summer. Autrey has pitched in four games for the Orleans Cardinals and is 1-1 with a 3.15 ERA. He also has 26 strikeouts in 20.0 innings. Moore is 2-1 with a 2.25 ERA in three starts for Chatham.
