Gymnastics Takes Second At George Washington Invite

WASHINGTON, D.C.--Carolina gymnastics scores 191.275 to defeat William & Mary (190.450), Cornell (185.750), Pennsylvania (184.400) and Temple (184.250) but falls to host George Washington 191.600.
Senior Monica Middleton placed second in the all-around with a 38.825. Middleton scored a 9.750 to take second on vault and a 9.650 to place fourth on beam.
Freshman Amy Williams scored a 9.775 to place first on vault for the second consecutive meet of her collegiate career. Junior Natalie Halbach scored a 9.700 to take second place on the balance beam. Junior Fritzie Cathcart finished with a 9.750 on bars to take third place.
Sophomore transfer Anna Wilson placed fourth in the all-around with a 37.775. Wilson, who competed at Pennsylvania during the 2001 season, tied for first on floor with a 9.875.
The Tar Heels improve their record to 5-1. Carolina gymnastics travels to Muncie, Ind. to compete in the Ball State Invitational on January 25 at 7 p.m.
