The University of North Carolina men's basketball team begins practice for the 2002-03 season with "Midnight With The Tar Heels," this Friday at Carmichael Auditorium.
For the second year in a row, Carolina's midnight practice will be hosted by ESPN anchor and UNC graduate Stuart Scott.
Former Tar Heel point guards Jimmy Black and Dick Grubar will serve as guest coaches. Black was the senior leader on Carolina's 1982 NCAA champions and was a teammate of UNC head coach Matt Doherty.
Grubar was the starting point guard on UNC teams that won three straight ACC regular-season titles, ACC Tournament championships and NCAA East Regional titles and played in NCAA Final Fours from 1967-69.
Carmichael Auditorium doors will open at 6:30 pm. The evening starts with ACC volleyball, as Joe Sagula's 11th-ranked Tar Heels take on Wake Forest at 7:30 pm.
"Midnight With The Tar Heels" activities will begin at 11 pm.
All seats are general admission. The first 300 in attendance will receive free tickets to the November 2nd Blue-White men's basketball game.
Parking for the midnight practice is available at the Smith Center, Boshamer Stadium, Ramshead and the Highway 54 visitors lots.
