Former Tar Heel National Champion Laura Dupont Passes Away

DURHAM, N.C. - Laura Dupont, a brilliant tennis player at the University of North Carolina in the late 1960s, passed away Wednesday night in Durham, N.C. at the age of 52. Dupont passed away after a long fight with breast cancer.
Services are Friday at 3 p.m. at Walker's Funeral Home in Chapel Hill with receiving starting at 2 p.m.
A 1971 UNC graduate, Dupont won the United States Lawn Tennis Association intercollegiate women's singles championship in 1970 under the tutelage of legendary Tar Heel women's tennis coach Frances Hogan. She transferred to Carolina after first attending UNC Greensboro.
Dupont was born in Lousiville, Ky. and grew up in Charlotte, N.C. where she graduated from Our Lady of Mercy High School.
