Tar Heels Earn All-Region Honors

CHAPEL HILL, N.C.--University of North Carolina senior Natalie Anter has earned All-Southeast Region softball honors at catcher for the fourth time in her career and is joined on the 2002 all-region first team by teammate Tiffany Tolleson, a junior outfielder. Quinn Porter, also a junior outfielder for UNC, earned all-region second-team honors.
Anter, who finished her UNC career as the school's all-time leader in home runs, RBI, walks, total bases and games played, led UNC this year with 15 home runs and a .659 slugging percentage. A native of Upland, Calif., she is the first North Carolina player to earn first-team all-region honors four times during her career.
Tolleson, who is in her first year at UNC after transferring from Stetson University, led the Tar Heels in 2002 with a .411 batting average and 57 stolen bases. She set school single-season records for hits, runs, at-bats and stolen bases and finished the season with a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage. The Tar Heels' starter in centerfield, she is from Winter Haven, Fla.
Porter led UNC in 2002 with 45 RBI, nearly doubling her career total of 24 heading into the spring, and batted .317. She ranked second on the team in doubles (11) and third in slugging percentage (.442). The team's starter in left, she is from Wesley Chapel, Fla.
The Tar Heels finished the 2002 season with a record of 34-30, reaching the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship game. Anter, Porter and Tolleson represented UNC on the All-ACC team, and Anter also earned All-ACC Tournament honors.
