UNC Men's Lacrosse Team Adds Final 2002 Recruit

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The University of North Carolina men's lacrosse program has announced that defenseman Billy Staines of Severna Park, Md., will be joining the Tar Heel program next fall. Staines is the ninth and final recruit for the Tar Heels in 2002 as announced by second-year University of North Carolina head coach John Haus Monday.
Staines joins attackman Scott Falatach of Stevensville, Md.; attackman Ryan Blair of Auburn, N.Y.; attackman Kyle Henderson of Massapequa, N.Y.; attackman Sean Link of Baltimore, Md.; midfielder Ryan Tolson of Baltimore, Md.; midfielder Andrew McElduff of Yorktown, N.Y.; defenseman Steve McElduff of Yorktown, N.Y.; and defenseman Hayward Howard of Baltimore, Md.
illy Staines of Severn School is the younger brother of current Tar Heel junior defenseman Ronnie Staines. He was recently named a 2002 first-team All-Metro selection by the Baltimore Sun as well as first team All-Anne Arundel County by the Sun. Staines was a first-team All-County lacrosse selection as a junior, a member of the Bay States Team and a Top 205 All-Star Team member. He is the captain of the Severn School varsity lacrosse team this season. He played varsity football as a senior where he was the captain and led the team in tackles. He played junior varsity football as a sophomore and was the team captain that season. Staines made the senior honor roll first semester and took fifth place in the state of Maryland in the Baltimore Literary Festival.
