Carolina Women's Swimmers Rout Wolfpack

RALEIGH, N.C. - The 11th-ranked University of North Carolina women's swimming and diving team won its ninth successive dual meet Wednesday night with a 191-109 triumph over NC State at Carmichael Natatorium in Raleigh. The victory improved the Tar Heels to 9-1 overall on the season and 3-0 in Atlantic Coast Conference meets.
UNC, which has not lost a dual meet in women's swimming to the Wolfpack since 1981, got individual event wins from nine different swimmers and won 13 of the meet's 16 events overall. NC State fell to 5-6 overall and 1-4 in the ACC with the loss.
oth junior Becky Acker and junior Kelly Weeks each won two individual events for UNC. Acker won the 200-yard breaststroke and the 400-yard individual medley while also swimming the breaststroke leg on UNC's victorious 200-yard medley relay. Weeks earned victories in the 200-yard butterfly and the 500-yard freestyle.
Junior Jessi Perruquet won the 50-yard freestyle and she also anchored UNC to wins in both the 200-yard medley and 400-yard freestyle relays. Senior Janna Turner, sophomore Jessi Brosch and freshman Leila Martin each captured one individual events while swimming on a victorious relay team. Turner won the 100-yard backstroke and also swam the leadoff leg of the 200 medley relay. Brosch took top honors in the 100-yard butterfly and swam on the 400 free relay, while Martin won the 100-yard freestyle and swam on the 400 free relay.
Freshman Emily Carroll was a swimmer on both winning relay teams and junior Courtney Lewis, sophomore Virginia Hanson and freshman Elizabeth Bruce each won one event apiece.
The Tar Heels will look to post their 10th dual meet win of the season this Saturday when UNC swims at Clemson at 12 noon.
