Tar Heels Sweep Doubleheader With Louisburg

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The North Carolina softball team wrapped up its fall season Wednesday afternoon with a doubleheader sweep of Louisburg College at the UNC Softball Complex. The Tar Heels won the first game 6-0 and took the second 8-0 in five innings.
In the first game, Carolina totaled nine hits, with seniors leading the way. Centerfielder Natashalyn Snipes went 3-for-3 and scored twice. Shortstop Emily Price and third baseman Dionne Streete had two RBI each.
Sophomore Alison Yin started the game on the mound and pitched five innings, striking out five and giving up four hits. Junior Brandi Griffin stepped in for the final two innings and walked one but didn't yield a hit.
Griffin and sophomore Crystal Cox combined for a five-inning no-hitter in the second game. Griffin pitched the first inning, walking two. Cox threw the final four, striking out nine.
Griffin, who moved to the designated player spot after the first inning, hit a two-RBI triple, and freshman Joslin Higgins had three RBI with a double. The team combined for eight hits.
The Tar Heels finished the fall season 4-0. They open the 2004 slate on Feb. 8 with a doubleheader against South Carolina.
