Tar Heels Ranked No. 10 in Preseason Coaches' Poll

The University of North Carolina men's basketball team is ranked 10th in the 2003-04 USA Today ESPN Top 25 coaches' poll, released on Thursday. It is the first top-10 preaseason ranking for the Tar Heels since the 2000-01 season, when the Tar Heels returned four starters from their 2000 Final Four squad.
Connecticut is ranked No. 1, having received 25 of 31 first-place votes and 762 points overall. Duke was No. 2 (697 points, three first-place votes), followed by No. 3 Michigan State (677, one), No. 4 Arizona (638), No. 5 Kansas (589), No. 6 Missouri (560), No. 7 Syracuse (533, one), No. 8 Florida (507), No. 9 Kentucky (498) and No. 10 UNC.
Other Atlantic Coast Conference teams in the preason top 25 coaches' poll include No. 21 Wake Forest and No. 25 Maryland.
The Tar Heels will launch their 2003-04 exhibition season on Sunday afternoon, when they play their annual Blue-White scrimmage at the Smith Center at 2 p.m.
