Carolina and Radford Set For Non-Conference Battle

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- The University of North Carolina softball team will host Radford University Tuesday, Feb. 25, at 3 p.m. for a softball doubleheader. UNC finished 18th at the NFCA leadoff Classic dropping games to No. 3 Nebraska, 4-1, and No. 12 Stanford, 6-0. Carolina heads into the games with a record of 6-5, while Radford stands at 0-7.
Senior center fielder Tiffany Tolleson (Winter Haven, Fla.) continues to lead the Tar Heels offensively. Tolleson is on a seven-game hitting streak and is hitting .514 on the season. She leads the Heels with eight stolen bases and has one double.
Junior short stop Emily Price (Decatur, Ill.) has been hitting the ball well for UNC. Price hit the game-winning home run against Southern Mississippi this past Sunday and has three home runs in her last five games. Price is batting .333, with one double and a slugging percentage of .704.
Freshman first baseman Jaclyn Holden (Santa Clarita, Calif.) ranks second on the Carolina squad with a .414 batting average. Holden also leads the team with six doubles and a slugging percentage of .828, tops in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Freshman pitcher Crystal Cox (Harrisburg, N.C.) continues to dominate opposing hitters on the mound for the Tar Heels. Cox fired two shutouts last week holding UNC Wilmington and Southern Miss to no runs, three hits and 18 strikeouts in 12 innings of work. She stands at 4-2 and has a team low 1.35 ERA.
Freshman Lindsay Woody leads the Highlanders with a .316 batting average. Woody is 4-for-4 in stolen base attempts in 2003. Teammate Amber Drexel paces Radford with an average of .286 and leads the team with four RBI.
North Carolina will head to Austin, Texas for the Longhorn Invitational Feb. 28-March 2. UNC will face Florida and No. 6 Texas on Friday at 3 and 7 p.m. local time. The Tar Heels will then take on No. 15 Michigan at Noon on Saturday to round out pool play.
