University of North Carolina sophomore Laura Gerraughty broke the alltime Atlantic Coast Conference record in the shot put for the second time in three days and the third time in three weeks as she threw 61 feet, nine inches to best the field Saturday at Clemson's Orange and Purple Classic.
The Nashua, N.H., native broke the ACC record on April 23 at the Penn Relays (60-6) and again on May 8 at the North Carolina Central Classic (60-7 3/4).
Gerraughty was one of two Tar Heels who won individual events at the Clemson meet. Freshman Karen Wyzykowski won the javelin with a throw of 161-8.
A number of Tar Heels finished second, including: Jill Pedretti in the discus (170-7), Adam Shunk in the high jump (6-11 1/2), Vikas Gowda in the men's discus (189-10) and Rory Magner in the men's javelin (205-8).
