Tar Heels Welcome Virginia For Final ACC Series

North Carolina (36-17, 12-9 ACC) will host the Virginia Cavaliers (26-22, 9-11 ACC) for a three-game series at Boshamer Stadium beginning Thursday at 7 p.m. Daniel Moore (6-2, 3.36 ERA) takes the mound for the Tar Heels against Andrew Dobies (6-2, 3.74 ERA) of the Cavaliers.
Friday's 7 p.m. matchup will pit Carolina's Adam Kalkhof (7-1, 3.74 ERA) against Virginia's Chris Gale (3-4, 4.25 ERA). Garry Bakker (6-3, 3.69 ERA) gets the ball for UNC in Saturday's regular season finale. Virginia's starting pitcher is to be announced.
The Cavaliers have been struggling of late, losers of their last five games. Carolina lost the final two games of its series in Clemson last weekend but defeated UNC-Wilmington, 8-7 on Wednesday afternoon.

* Last Season: The Tar Heels rolled into Charlottesville with an 11 game winning streak and 6-0 in the ACC after sweeping both Maryland and Florida State to begin conference play. Carolina won the first two games of the series before suffering its first ACC loss in game three.
* March 29, 2002: UNC 15, Virginia 4 UNC starter Scott Autrey struck out a career-high twelve batters and earned his first victory of the season. Carolina pounded out 18 hits, led by All-Americans Adam Greenberg and Russ Adams who had four hits apiece.
* March 30, 2002: UNC 5, Virginia 0 The Tar Heels extended their winning streak to 13 games overall and eight games in the ACC thanks to a complete game shutout by freshman pitcher Garry Bakker. Bakker picked up his third victory by allowing just five hits and striking out a career-high 13 batters. Ryan Blake and Sean Farrell each had two hits for Carolina.
* March 31, 2002: Virginia 8, UNC 3 The Cavaliers handed Carolina its first ACC defeat and ended its 13-game winning streak on a cold, wet Easter Sunday in Charlottesville. The Tar Heels left 13 runners on base in the game and Virginia's Dan Street went 2-for-4 with a home run.
