Carolina's Anna Tharrington Named Verizon CoSida All-America

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Senior catcher Anna Tharrington (Rocky Mount, N.C.) was named to the 2003 Verizon Academic All-District III Softball University Division Team this afternoon. Tharrington earned second team honors after helping the Tar Heels to a second seed in the upcoming Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament in Tallahassee, Fla., May 9-11. UNC will face three seed Georgia Tech at 5 p.m. tomorrow.
The Rocky Mount, N.C., native started in 31 games for Carolina at catcher and only allowed four passed balls on the season. She had 21 hits in 104 at bats, including three doubles, one home run and 13 RBIs. Tharrington threw out 12 of 31 runners and was named all-tournament at the Tar Heel Invitational on March 30. She will graduate this Spring with a degree in political science and carries a 3.50 GPA.
