NFL Update: Week Two

In week two of the 2003 NFL season, the University of North Carolina was well represented on defense and in the kicking game. David Thornton, a 2002 fourth round draft choice of the Indianapolis Colts, had a stellar performance at linebacker. A reserve linebacker in the 2002 season, Thorton started the game and subsequently had 10 tackles, three assists, and one pass deflection in a victory over Tennessee. Greg Ellis and Ebenezer Ekuban of the Dallas Cowboys rose to the occasion at the defensive end position in a Monday night win over the NY Giants. Ellis made five tackles, two assists, and a fumble recovery while Ekuban forced one fumble, made two tackles, two assists, and 1.5 sacks. Jeff Reed, of the Pittsburgh Steelers, hit two more field goals including his longest of the season at 51 yards.

Sam Aiken, Buffalo Bills- DNP, injury-hamstring
Ethan Albright, Washington Redskins-started at long snapper in Washington's win over the Falcons.
Dre` Bly, Detroit Lions-started at cornerback and had one interception and assisted on one tackle in a 31-6 loss to Green Bay.
Alge Crumpler, Atlanta Falcons-started at tight end and had four receptions including one touchdown in a 33-31 loss to the Redskins.
Ronald Curry, Oakland Raiders- started but had no receptions at wide receiver in the Raiders 23-20 victory over Cincinnati.
Russell Davis, Arizona Cardinals-started at defensive tackle and had one assist in a 38-0 loss to Seattle.
Kevin Donnalley, Carolina Panthers-started at offensive right guard in a winning effort over Tampa Bay.
Ebenbzer Ekuban, Dallas Cowboys- started at right defensive end and forced one fumble, had two tackles, two assists, and 1.5 sacks in a 33-28 victory over the NY Giants.
Greg Ellis, Dallas Cowboys- started at left defensive end and had five tackles, 0.5 sacks, two passes deflected, and one fumble recovery in a 33-28 victory over the NY Giants.
enardo Harris, Baltimore Ravens- did not play-injured reserve.
William Henderson, Green Bay Packers- started at fullback in a 31-6 victory over Detroit.
Zack Hilton, New Orleans Saints- did not play.
Sedrick Hodge, New Orleans Saints- started at linebacker and had two tackles, and one pass deflection in a 31-10 win over Houston.
Vonnie Holliday, Kansas City Chiefs- started at right defensive end and had one tackle in a 41-20 victory over Pittsburg.
Leon Johnson, San Diego Chargers-did not play.
Freddie Jones, Arizona Cardinals- started at tight end and had four receptions for 25 yards in a 38-0 loss to Seattle.
Quincy Monk, NY Giants- played at linebacker in a 35-32 loss to Dallas.
Keith Newman, Atlanta Falcons- DNP
Julius Peppers, Carolina Panthers- started at left defensive end and had blocked a field goal attempt in a 12-9 victory over Tampa Bay.
Jeff Reid, Pittsburgh Steelers- kicked 20- and 51- yard field goals in a loss to Kansas City.
Jeff Saturday, Indianapolis Colts- started at center for the Colts in a 33-7 win over Tennessee.
rian Simmons, Cincinnati Bengals- started at linebacker and had five tackles, one assist, and six combination tackles in a 23-20 loss to Oakland.
Ryan Sims, Kansas City Chiefs- started at nose tackle and had four tackles and two sacks in a 41-20 win over Pittsburgh.
