Rashad McCants scored 27 points, including Carolina's final 10 points, to lead the Tar Heels to an 86-83 win over No. 1 ranked Connecticut. McCants was 10 for 16 from the floor against the Huskies. He tied the game with a three-pointer with 1:14 to play and gave the Tar Heels the win with another three with six seconds remaining. Earlier in the week, McCants scored 15 points in the loss at Maryland. McCants shared ACC Player of the Week honors for his efforts against UConn and Maryland with Duke guard J.J. Reddick.

Women's swimming
North Carolina sophomore Lizzy Bruce was named this week's Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Swimmer of the Week as announced Monday by the conference office in Greensboro. Bruce, a native of Wichita, Kan., helped lead the No. 15 Tar Heels to a 209-91 win over the Clemson Tigers.
North Carolina won 14 of 16 events and Bruce was the only swimmer in the meet to win three individual events as she swept the breaststroke events and also captured top honors in the 200 individual medley (2:06.23). The sophomore swam the 100 breaststroke in 1:04.27, while recording "B cut" times in the 100 breaststroke (1:03.66), via her leg in North Carolina's winning 400 medley relay and 200 breaststroke (2:18.14).
