TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Camille Little scored 16 points, helping No. 11 North Carolina defeat Florida State 71-58 Thursday night and clinch the second seed in the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament.
Little had 10 of her points in a crucial 18-3 second-half run by the Tar Heels (21-5, 11-4), who never trailed and beat the Seminoles for the 15th time in 16 meetings.
Candace Sutton had 14 points and Leah Metcalf added 12 for North Carolina, which closes the regular season at home Sunday against Virginia.
Consecutive baskets by Tasheika Allen and Alicia Gladden brought Florida State to 45-43 with 11:09 remaining. But the Seminoles missed seven of their next eight shots and the Tar Heels pulled away.
Allen had 22 points and Shante Williams 13 points and six assists for the Seminoles (14-13, 7-9), who lost three of their final five regular-season games.
Allen was 9-for-17 from the field, but her teammates combined to make only 13 of 42 shots. Williams added six assists for the Seminoles.
North Carolina used an 11-0 run to build a 26-14 lead late in the first half, but Florida State's defense stiffened and allowed the Tar Heels only one basket in the final 4:55 before the break. The Seminoles closed the half on an 11-3 spurt, and trailed 29-25.
