Tar Heels Fall At Clemson

CLEMSON, N.C. - The North Carolina rowing team wrapped up a week of Spring Break training on Saturday with a morning of racing against Clemson on Lake Hartwell. With both varsity and novice boats racing, the Tigers swept all seven races.
"We did everything we wanted to do, we just didn't have any power left after our training," UNC coach Sarah Haney said. "We had a great training week and got a lot faster, so we feel really good about that. Our results for Saturday were disappointing, but we know that when we see them later this season we'll have a lot more speed to bring to the table."
In the varsity eight race, Clemson won with a time of 6:50.9 to UNC's 7:02.8. In the novice eight, it was Clemson in 7:01.4 and Carolina in 7:38.0.
In the second varsity eight, the Tigers finished in 7:05.4, with Clemson's third varsity eight in 7:12.5 and UNC's second varsity eight in 7:19.0. In the second novice eight, Clemson finished in 7:19.0 to UNC's 7:30.6.
In the varsity four, with each school racing two boats, Clemson took the first spot in 7:27.0, with UNC's first varsity four in second at 7:32.0. The Tigers were third in 7:36.3 and UNC's second varsity four was fourth in 8:01.1.
In the second varsity four race, with each school again racing two boats, Clemson took the first two spots in 7:48.4 and 7:58.0. UNC's fourth varsity four was third in 8:02.7 and the third V4 was fourth in 8:12.2.
The final race was the novice four, in which Clemson took the first two spots at 7:40.1 and 7:48.0. UNC finished in 8:23.8.
The UNC rowing team spent Spring Break training in Summerton, S.C. After departing from Chapel Hill on March 5, the Tar Heels got in two-a-day practices before traveling on to Clemson Friday for Saturday's racing.
Carolina's next action is on March 27, when the team hosts Georgetown at Lake Wheeler in Raleigh.
