Tar Heels Host Marshall at UNC Softball Classic

Chapel Hill, N.C. - The North Carolina softball team returns to action on Wednesday against Marshall, as the Tar Heels host the Thundering Herd in a doubleheader starting at 2:30 p.m. at the UNC Softball Complex. UNC is coming off three-straight wins at the FSU Invitational and is 19-13 overall this year. Marshall is 14-11 this season and is coming off a 10-9 loss to Central Florida.
UNC is led by seniors Dionne Streete and Emily Price as the two infielders are first and second respectively in the ACC in batting average. Streete is hitting .400 with 13 doubles and 23 runs scored. Price is batting .396 and has a team-leading 20 runs batted in.
On the pitching side, sophomores Crystal Cox and Alison Yin lead the way. Cox has an ERA of 1.76 and has struck out 129 batters this season. She leads the ACC in innings pitched and is second in shutouts with seven. Yin is 7-6 on the season with an ERA of 1.89. She has two shutouts this season and eight complete games.
Marshall is led by senior Sierra Davenport, as she hits .437 and has 15 stolen bases on the year. Other key contributors include Amanda Williams and Leigh Wintter. Williams leads the team with seven doubles and hits .357. Wintter leads the team with seven home runs and 25 RBI's. The Thundering Herd's leading pitcher is Randi Nielson. She is 7-4 with an ERA of 1.72 and 56 strikeouts.
