The five most memorable games in the Carolina-Georgia Tech series, in chronological order:
1985 ACC Tournament championship: Tech 57, Carolina 54. The Yellow Jackets pulled off one of the rarest feats in the conference--a three-game sweep of the Tar Heels in a single season. This game cemented Bobby Cremins's arrival as a conference institution and handed his school their first-ever league title.
March 1, 1989: Tech 76, Carolina 74. One of the games that turned Alexander Memorial Coliseum into "The Thrillerdome." Dennis Scott caps a Georgia Tech comeback by stealing an inbounds pass and draining a three-pointer with four seconds remaining.
Feb. 15, 1997: Carolina 72, Tech 68. The Jackets led 59-44 with 7:42 left, a seemingly safe margin in Atlanta. With less than 3:30 remaining, the lead was still nine points, but the Tar Heels finished the game on a 14-1 run and Ed Cota hit a pair of free throws with 33 seconds left to clinch the win.
Feb. 8, 1998: Carolina 107, Tech 100 (double overtime). Carolina lost a seven-point lead in the final minute of regulation, but that only set the stage for a Shammond Williams explosion. He finished with 42 points, hitting a pair of clutch free throws late in the first overtime and pumping in 12 points in the second overtime.
Mar. 15, 2004: Tech 83, Carolina 82. The most recent battle between the teams came in the ACC quarterfinals. A 17-4 Carolina run gave them a 79-77 lead with just 2:36 to play, but Jarrett Jack hit a game-winning jumper with two seconds remaining and a last-gasp inbounds pass was intercepted.
