With a 109-75 win over Maryland Saturday, Carolina's current winning streak is now 13 games, marking the Tar Heels' longest streak since an 18-game run during the 2000-01 season. Carolina has not lost since dropping its season-opener to Santa Clara.
The 34-point margin of victory was Carolina's largest over Maryland since a 36-point victory (102-66) over the Terps on March 12, 1993 in the ACC Tournament. The win also marked UNC's largest over a ranked opponent since a 103-55 victory over No. 20 Florida State on Jan. 24, 1998.
The 109 points are the most Carolina has ever scored against Maryland and the most the Terps have allowed since a 114-91 loss to NC State on Feb. 27, 1991.
The win was also the Tar Heels' biggest in an ACC game since a 98-64 win over Florida State on Feb. 7, 1999 at the Smith Center.
Carolina has now won three of its last four meetings with Maryland and has scored a combined 206 points in the teams' last two games, both at the Smith Center. Prior to this stretch, the Terps had won four straight over UNC.
The Tar Heels are now 2-0 in ACC play for the first time since the 2000-01 season. Carolina has won each of its first two conference games by 34 points.
The nation's highest scoring team, Carolina reached the 100-point plateau for the third straight game for the first time since the start of the 1992-93 national championship season. That year, Carolina scored 119 versus Old Dominion (Dec. 1, 1992), 108 against South Carolina (Dec. 4, 1992) and 104 versus Texas (Dec. 5, 1992).
Carolina had seven players in double figures for the first time since a 121-110 win over Kentucky on Dec. 27, 1989. Rashad McCants (19), Sean May (14), Jawad Williams (13), Raymond Felton (12), Marvin Williams (12), Reyshawn Terry (11) and Jackie Manuel (10) each reached double digits Saturday.
After Maryland took a 29-24 lead with 9:07 left in the opening frame, the Tar Heels closed the first half on a 23-5 run to carry a 47-34 lead into intermission. Raymond Felton led UNC at the break with 12 points of 5 of 7 shooting.
Felton continued his hot shooting with a 2 of 4 effort from behind the three-point arc. He has now made 16 of his last 22 three point attempts. Felton entered Saturday's game with the second-best three-point shooting percentage in the ACC.
With 13 points, senior Jawad Williams scoring in double figures in scoring for the 16th consecutive game. He has reached double figures in scoring in each game this season and 74 times as a Tar Heel. However, he was 4 of 9 from the field snapping an 11-game streak of shooting 50 percent or better from the field.
Junior Rashad McCants had 19 points on 7 of 8 shooting and added four assists and two steals. He has hit a three-point field goal in 29 straight games.
Freshman Marvin Williams had 12 points and nine rebounds and has now reached double figures in four straight games and six of the last seven.
Sophomore Reyshawn Terry scored a season-best 11 points of 4 of 5 shooting. He now has 16 points over the last two games.
