Quinton Person, Sophomore Cornerback
Q--How are you guys looking at this four-game stretch? It's pretty demanding because you have to come up with three wins.
"Basically we are just taking it one game at a time. You can't look ahead in this conference or any other sport that you play, so we are just trying to take it one game at a time and focus on our next opponent, who is Boston College. You try to prepare for them and hopefully be prepared when Saturday rolls around and get it done."
Q--Could you look back instead: you have played seven games and people think in general that you have played pretty well and yet you have just three wins to show for it. Is kind of shocking when you look at that number?
"You can't really get down on yourself. We look at some games that we could and should have won but you can't look at the situation like that you just have to look forward and build on the good things that you have done and learn from the bad things that you have done so that what we are trying to do,"
Q--What are the good things the defense is doing right now?
"I think we are doing a good job of being assignment-sound and even at time when someone misses a tackle we have thee or four other guys to come in ... that is part of being a great defense like having a whole lot of guys around the ball. So I think those are some of the things we are doing a little bit better."
Q--What do you remember about Boston College and the bowl game last year?
"They were very competitive and they have a huge offensive line and they are to try and run the ball at you. They are very talented and they have guys that can make plays. They just pose a threat with some of the things that they do so we just have to be prepared for them."
Q--What your thoughts on Boston College's fake field goal?
"It's the type of play that takes the air out of a team. I am not saying that the play took the air out of us but it was kind of hard to recover from that so it was a huge momentum shift in the game and it helped them."
Q--How likely or doable is this situation of winning three games in the last four?
"I think it's very possible. We have played some very tough opponents this year so playing tough opponents and great competition is not new, so we just have to focus on what we do as team be assignment sound and not worry so much on what other teams do we just have to do what we do well and continue to work on those things and get better."
Q-Boston College's offensive line is huge but how important is that size and is there a tendency to read too much into it?
"No, we don't look at things like that, I think the guys on our defensive line are very competitive no matter who we play, no matter who the offensive is, those things don't matter. We are going to go out there and play hard and give 100 percent effort on each play."
Jesse Holley, Junior Wide Receiver
Q--What do you see has been the problem with the passing game?
"Basically, at some point and time during the game we have a different guy mess up whether it be a receiver or a lineman or the quarterback; we can't seem to get all the guys on the same page at the right time. One time the receiver may drop the ball, next time a lineman may loose a man, sometimes the quarterback stays in the read too long, we just have to get the same guys on the same page so our passing game is back to where it used to be."
Q--How long did the loss to Boston College in the bowl game stay with you after the game?
"Not too long, personally I don't let losses weigh on me too heavily. After a while you can only move on to the next one. If you draw on that loss too long before you know it you will have a chain of losses. So maybe a day or two and after that it was over with. We had to start looking towards next year."
Q--Is there anything you could have improved on in that game?
"Every game, every game you can [look at] is a positive and negative, even when you win games because there are a lot of negatives that go on in a game when you win. When you loose they are much more magnified. We take the positives and negatives and we look at them and we try to improve on them so the negatives don't happen again.?
Q--What are some of those things you remember from the Boston College game?
"I thought we really pressured them when we went to five wide receivers and I thought that our rare talent was a different mix for them. We kind of pushed the issue of taking deep shots and there were a lot of open holes in there when we gave the quarterback time. We have to rely on our one on one battles. Those guys have to have pride in themselves and know that this guy is not going to beat me one on one when that time comes and Matt has to let the ball go before he gets there -- taking the pressure off himself. Players get frustrated when they almost don't get there so we hope we can frustrate them a little bit- people don't play that well when they are frustrated."
Q--What did you guys do to enable you to win three out four games at the end of the season?
"Just like last year we had great senior leadership and those guys made sure that we came to practice everyday and we worked hard and we took care of the details and we will watch extra film this year like we did last year. Now that time is running out we have to be extremely particular on all the small things. We know that, the coached know that and we just have to go out there and execute them."
Q--How easy do you think it will be to win three out of four games?
"As easy or as difficult as we make it. Every game that we have played with the exception of one we had an opportunity to win the game. We feel that we are talented enough to play with anybody. We have to be able to do it for four quarters."
